We are glad you’re here!
You'll be welcomed with a smile and hand shake, but we won't make you stand up and introduce yourself! Take a bulletin before the services start and please fill out a connection card located in your bulletin, sign up for an event or sign up for our weekly e-newsletter, the Eagle Wing - or simply let us know you’re here!
What are worship services like?
The pastor will preach a message based on a scripture passage. We pray that God’s spirit is at work through the pastor’s study and prayerful preparation. Read additional details on our worship format and styles here.
I have kids - what is available?
Childcare is available for all children preschool and younger who need it, but we recognize that some families might want to keep children with them in worship. Children are welcome to stay through the service. Most of our services have special children’s times with a special message just for children.
So what else?
Come as you are. Like most places around town, here at St. John “Alaskan Formal” works for us. Jeans and a sweatshirt, your “Sunday Best”, Carhartts and XtraTuffs - that’s fine with us. We are here to join together and support each other in whatever you are comfortable in.
Please help yourself to refreshments before, after or during worship in our Fellowship Hall. Enjoy some Kaladis Brother’s Coffee, tea, water or juice. We encourage you to join in conversation, meet new people, or catch up with family or friends.
Bean’s from Above also offers a donation based espresso bar featuring a variety of specialty beverages and snacks with all proceeds going back to ongoing mission and outreach ministries.
All abilities welcome!
Our building is fully accessible and people with disabilities worship regularly at St. John. We do our best to accommodate all persons, even when it means some minor disruptions may occur in worship. We are a family, and families accept one another’s differences. ASL Interpretation is often available at the 11:30 a.m. service (let the church office know if you need an interpreter and we'll set it up for you.) Assisted listening devices are available in the sanctuary during worship. We request that persons minimize the use of fragrances in the building.
We certify that our congregation scored at the Gold Badge level based on completing the 2019 Annual Accessibility Audit for United Methodist Churches and a review of our facilities and programs. By accepting this “Disability-Friendly and Accessible” designation, this congregation commits to continuing to remove barriers of architecture, communication, and attitudes so that people with disabilities are fully included in all aspects of worship, leadership, ministry, and mission. We agree that the Gold Badge statement reflects our church facilities as well as congregational values and practices.

“Some people imagine cancer to be the enemy. They use lots of war imagery: fighting, battling, defeating, winning. And I understand that this works for them. But not for me. I felt that to think along those lines would give my disease too much power. I chose to imagine my healing and ask God to be with me. All of the time. No matter what.”
“We trusted and came. As soon as we walked through the doors of St. John, we felt Home. We didn’t feel that choking feeling as we did in the past. We were home. This is the church where we want to worship and raise our son. If I had not trusted God those years ago, I would not be standing here today living the life he had laid out for me.”
“Here is what you can replace it with: Over the last year of listening to Sunday sermons, attending Worship Plus classes as well as Monday Morning Women discussions, my spiritual belief system changed. The more new concepts I was hearing and discussions I participated in, the more I realized there was room for expansion to my small space, it was actually limitless. I just didn’t realize it… I believe God’s grace has been with me from the very beginning.”
